How was this year's ASL Night 2012 a complete success?
- Most major genres of ASL literature were represented: Storytelling, Poetry, Jokes, Improv with Audience Participation, and Songs.
- English voice interpretation was only provided for the MC's introduction to each performance - no voiceover accompanied the performances themselves. This format showcased the rich power of ASL, allowing the audience to enjoy each performance to its fullest. At the same time, it provided a brief intro to each performance, allowing audience members newer to ASL to be kept in the loop.
- One of ASL Night 2012's goals was to include youths; we're proud to say that the youngest performer (Jewel Rocha) was 10 years old, and a blast to watch!
- There was something for everyone! Young and old, from those learning ASL to veteran members of the ASL community.
- The show was SOLD OUT, all 148 tickets!! Over $1,500 was raised, allowing AFU to fund opportunities increasing interpreting students' immersion/exposure to the Deaf community. If you came to ASL Night, pat yourselves on the back - YOU are making that happen!
